Chapan / Khalat (Coat)
Commonly worn by men in
northern Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries. The coats are adorned with intricate threading and come in a variety of colors and
patterns. The current president of Afghanistan,
Hamid Karzai is almost always wearing one of these coats.
The chapan can be worn loosely over a traditional
dishdasha or over regular clothing as
well. One size fits all.
